Guide home Bringing up a child Bringing up a Child
Often partners or married couples will plan ahead before they have children. In other cases they may not. But they all need to know that there are many rules and norms to teach, so that their children will fit into our society. Some basic upbringings are: Right from Wrong Teaching a child right from wrong is one of the first things that a child learns. If he or she walks near the fire or begins to climb up the stairs, the parents will instantly shout, “no”. The following time that child goes to do anything which they have been told is wrong he/she will imitate the parents and say “no”. The same occurs for a child doing right. If he/she pulls the fur of a dog, the parent will say “no” and show them how to smooth the animal properly. When he/she next smooths the dog the that they have been shown, they’re told, “good girl/boy”. Your tone of voice also teaches the child. When he/she is still young they can’t yet understand what you are saying, but because of the tone in use, they understand that what they are doing is either right or wrong. Hygiene All parents teach their child/ren to clean their teeth, wash their hands after going to the toilet and to have a bath. But the way in which they do so may differ. Many parents give their child a toy when having a bath so that they can play with it whilst bathing. Parents have different ways of upbringing so that their children will fit into our society. None of these ways are necessarily right or wrong.
