7 Education

In our society, education is compulsory for children aged 5 - 16. There are a number of reasons for this. Schools and colleges are not the only places where we learn. Education is one of the major ways in which people are differentiated: educated people earn more and have higher status. However, people from different backgrounds often achieve differently in education. Upper-class people generally succeed and you need to understand social reasons why this happens.
