Barry Comprehensive School governors are committed to
the school and to the role of Barry Comprehensive in the community. We
strongly support the school's partnership with the Vale of Glamorgan council
and community schools throughout the Vale.
The Governing Body is made up of elected parent and teacher
representatives, members nominated by the local education authority,
and people co-opted for their commitment and their expertise. The Headteacher
is a governor.
The Governing Body meets formally twice or more a term to
consider issues relating to the school's development, management and
curriculum. Committees or working groups of governors deal with school
improvement (including curriculum, welfare, special needs and premises),
finance and staffing. Presently the membership of the Governing Body
is as follows:
Parent governors:
Lyn Cosgrove, Mary Dyas, John Doel, (elections in progress)
Co-opted governors
Kath Beaudette (Chair, School Improvement), Russell Grant (Chair of Finance),
Matthew Griffiths (Chair), David Kennett (Vice Chair and Chair of Staffing),
Nick Paulakis
Teacher governors

Non-teaching staff governor

LEA governors

Additional committee/working group members
Under regulation 46 of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 the
governors have co-opted a number of experienced persons to committees
and working groups; these persons sit as observers on the governing
body: Steve James, Caroline Oxenham, John Stacy Marks.
The Chair of the Governing Body is elected annually,
in September. Matthew Griffiths can be contacted by email, via the school,
or via the Clerk to the Governors, Mr D Cullen, also via the school
