Students examine the DiDA website Barry Comprehensive's innovative ICT department is the first in the Vale to launch the new Diploma in Digital Applications – a paperless qualification for the 21 st Century. The DiDA qualification is equivalent to four GCSEs and is designed to prepare students for the real world of work or further education. A unique aspect of the course is that students coursework is produced, stored and assessed in a digital format rather than on paper. There are no written exams on paper and the majority of the teaching and learning takes place on screen. Most of us are consumers of media in one way or another. We use mobile phones, browse websites, download music files, take digital photos and send e-mails. For an increasing number of people, producing the digital applications that allow consumers to use these technologies is the way they make a living. The Diploma in Digital Applications will give students a solid grounding in all of these areas placing them at the forefront of an industry that is playing an increasingly important role in shaping our lives.
