Skills For Life

Thursday 17th March saw the completion of a very successful partnership between Barry Comprehensive School and the Dow Corning Plant in Barry. Dow Corning offered the support of twelve of their staff to a numeracy focussed Healthy Lifestyle project involving pupils from Year 8.

The final session also coincided with the visit by Allan Wells, the Head of the Basic Skills Agency (UK) who was keen to see at first hand the great strides the school has made with supporting the word and number skills of its pupils.

Reading and numeracy partnerships between the school and the local community are at the heart of the school's continuing success in raising standards and last year saw the school recognised with the award of the Basic Skills Quality Mark.
