Barcelona Football Tour 2006

Barry Comprehensive School have recently arrived back from their annual football tour to Barcelona. This year, Mr. Ingle, Mr. Hutton and Mr. Carter took 30 excited boys from Year 7 and 8 to Spain for four matches against local opposition and to tour the magnificent Nou Camp, the home of F.C. Barcelona.

The squad arrived to the warm sunshine of Barcelona and immediately settled into accommodation at the resort enjoying all the on-site activities. The boys and teachers were up early the next morning in preparation for the matches against two different age groups of FC Saltte. After a training session on the wonderful playing surface within the resort and a light lunch, the squad boarded the coach bound for Saltte. First up, were the Year 7 team against the same age boys from FC Saltte. The boys certainly enjoyed the occasion of playing on an excellent playing surface and started the tour with an exciting 2-2 draw, with Jack Fitchett and Ashley Enticott particularly standing out. The second game involving the Year 8 team was just as entertaining, it was evident from the start that the team were enjoying the experience and although being on the wrong side of a 5-3 result the whole team played together with a great deal of determination.

After the previous busy day, the whole squad and teachers were again up early for a morning of activities that included archery and an obstacle course. Then, after another light training session and pre-match lunch the squad set off for the two fixtures against FC Tossa. It was decided that Barry would field an ‘A’ and ‘B’ team for this fixture with a mixture of Year 7 and 8 pupils in each team. The first game was the ‘B’ fixture between the two sides. FC Tossa played some fluent football throughout the game and eventually ran out 4-1 winners. The Barry side fully appreciated the experience of playing against a different style of football and the attitude of the boys was excellent. The Barry ‘A’ team attacked FC Tossa from the first whistle and a marvellous display saw them run out 2-0 winners. Ashley Enticott and Sam Adamson netted the goals. Andrew Gurd also stood out in a great defensive display. It was an overall quality team performance and all members of the squad and teachers were very proud of the their accomplishment.

On the final day, the squad travelled to the Nou Camp for a tour around the stadium of the European champions. All the squad fully enjoyed the occasion and even got a glimpse of some of the Catalan players arriving for a training session! The coach then left for the airport with all of the squad having enjoyed an amazing experience. The football tour to Barcelona was a complete success for the second year running and both the players and teachers are fully looking forward to next years trip!!!!
