The Dumb Waiter

The Drama Department at Barry Comprehensive School like a challenge and last week they staged a production of Harold Pinter’s play “The Dumb Waiter”.

The characters, Gus and Ben, played by James O’Hanlon and Owen Doel captivated the audience for over an hour, displaying superb discipline and extraordinary acting skills.

Working for a week and a half on the script meant an intense rehearsal period which Owen and James managed alongside their “A2” studies. They are both taking Theatre Studies at A Level and have appear regularly in school productions, however the intense nature of this performance makes it perhaps the most noteworthy. This is borne out by the many positive audience comments after the performance. Matthew Griffiths, Chair of Governors called the performance “an impressive production and an amazing piece of acting”.

Work doesn’t stop for James and Owen and the rest of the Drama Department. Rehearsals have started already for the Theatre Studies Practical examinations and a production of “Much Ado About Nothing” is planned for the Summer Term.
