Easter Revision

Hard at work in the Maths departmentBarry Comprehensive School’s year 11 GCSE candidates returned from the Easter holidays full of ideas rather than chocolate after attending the Careers Wales Revision Programme at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff.

Around 40 students attended revision sessions that concentrated on English and Science over a four-day period. One of the UWIC tutors has already emailed the school to praise the boys for their behaviour, manners and hard work.

A further 35 students attended Mathematics revision sessions at the school. The focus was on areas of the subject where improvements could be made in preparation for the GCSE examinations. These sessions were spread over two days with the teaching being delivered by the boys regular teachers.

Other departments were also open to pupils during the holiday with Music workshops to enable fine-tuning of coursework, Drama rehearsals for the upcoming externally moderated practical examinations and A level revision in the sciences.

Students outside Cardiff MuseumJust prior to the holidays, a group of year 11 pupils visited Cardiff Museum to take part in a French revision course. The course was attended by schools from throughout South Wales and provided pupils with the opportunity to practise language skills in preparation for their coming exams with the help of two very entertaining native speakers.

Pupils greatly benefited from spending the entire day immersed in the language, and it was no surprise to find them volunteering to participate on stage by the end of it. The day was a huge success and pupils left feeling very positive about what they had learnt.
