School to open as planned on Tuesday 5th September despite fire in canteen
As has been reported in the press, the School canteen was the subject of an arsen attack in the early hours of Friday 4th August. Extensive damage was caused to the kitchen facilities but the School is working closely with the Local Education Authority to deal with the consequences and ensure that disruption is kept to an absolute minimum for the pupils on their return in September. No teaching spaces have been affected in a way which will compromise their use and anything other than superficial or cosmetic damage has fortunately been confined to the kitchen area alone. Mr. Swallow and the staff are sure, nevertheless, that the whole community would wish to join them in their condemnation of such a mindless attack which had the potential to affect so much of the outstanding work which has been done by the pupils in recent times. The School is confident that normal service will be resumed from the outset in the Autumn term.
The police, with the full co-operation of the School, are currently conducting a thorough investigation of the events surrounding the fire and anyone with any relevant information is urged to contact Barry CID on 01446 731606 or Crime Stoppers on 0800 555111 where information will be treated confidentially.
