Yet another first for the Drama Department at Barry Comprehensive. Karen Walters wanted to work with the pupils at Maes-Y-Dyfan and try to get them involved in a school production with the boys at Barry Comprehensive. Could it happen? It was worth a try! For six weeks, trainee drama teachers Sarah Cox and Caroline Whitlock led a series of workshops with the Maes-Y-Dyfan pupils. The pupils had a wonderful time and their teacher Debbie Oliver was thrilled with their performances. The workshops were such a success that it was decided to invite pupils to join in the production of “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe”. During the performances, which were on May 16 th and 17 th, the young actors thrilled and charmed the audience and it was agreed that the project was a huge success. Parents of pupils from both schools were delighted with the work that was achieved in producing the beautiful story of Narnia and congratulations all round for the talented cast and directors Sarah and Caroline. When presented with the idea of putting on a school production, including Maes-Y-Dyfan pupils, Sarah and Caroline didn’t think they were able to take on the challenge, but with help and support during their training at Barry Comprehensive they pulled off an amazing production and all the pupils involved will remember this experience for the rest of their lives. We hope this will be the start of an annual event with Maes-Y-Dyfan and look forward to next year. |
