Rob Scales New Heights

Robert Lamey (far left) with members of the Bangor University Mountaineering Society Former Barry Comprehensive School student Robert Lamey is now a member of the Bangor University Mountaineering Society who climbed to victory in this year’s British Universities Sports Association Climbing Championships by getting the highest overall score.

A record breaking 281 competitors entered this year’s Championships at Guilford Surrey on Saturday 11 March and Bangor fought off stiff competition from 83 teams to grab the top spot in the mixed teams category.

Rob, a first year Geological Oceanography, was one of two Bangor students to make it into the top ten of the Men’s Championships. Rob placed sixth whilst fellow team member Jeff McDonald wasn’t far behind in 9th place. Rob said, “The climbing wall was busy to say the least, with nearly 300 competitors let alone spectators and judges! There were 25 routes/problems to complete on the day so time was pushed but we all managed to have fun.”
