Times Educational Supplement Features Barry Comprehensive

David and Luke take a serious look at the TES articleBarry Comprehensive School was featured in the Times Educational Supplement last week. The article, by Felicity Waters, focussed on the schools mentoring programme for year 10 and year 11, which attempts to instil self-belief in pupils by giving them the skills and confidence to succeed academically.

The article discussed the different ways support is being provided including lunchtime and out of hours sessions, coursework catch-up days and the popular residential study weekends.

Rhys O’Sullivan, who was in the mentoring programme last year and is currently sitting his GCSE examinations, is quoted in the article, saying “Going away to a hotel to revise was definitely the best bit. Before the sessions, I wouldn’t have known how to revise – I would just read things and hope they go in.”

Graham Jenkins, teacher, head mentor and programme coordinator is also quoted in the article, saying, “It is a big commitment for teachers and admin staff but we are turning boys around and making them feel positive about their education.”
