World Book Day

Real Men Read Books. That’s the message that we send out to our boys to celebrate World Book Day at Barry Comprehensive School. Male staff from all sorts of departments: PE, Geography, Technology and Senior staff, took part to show the boys that it’s not just English teachers who enjoy reading! This year staff chose to read extracts from books, which ranged from Andrew Flintoff’s biography to JRR Tolkien’s “The Hobbit”.

“There was a great buzz around the school with boys talking about books, it was lovely to wander around the English dept and see burly track-suited men getting animated about books” said Ms Ford Head of English

“I was quite surprised that a PE teacher liked reading, I think I might read a sporting biography myself now” Kyle Year 7

Positive male role models are vital in the fight to get boys reading and this scheme has left the pupils at Barry Comprehensive in no doubt that real men read books!
