We adopted a beach!

The Adopt-A-Beach team members Josef Hartland, Joe Bowsher, Levi Sims, Callum Lima, Mark Aspbury, Chae De Gaetano, Anthony Buckthought and Liam Jones at the KnapEight pupils from Barry Comprehensive School have committed themselves to the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) Adopt-A-Beach initiative.

The scheme is aimed at encouraging local communities to care for their coastal environment by collecting and surveying beach litter. The surveys happen four times a year, Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. Each piece of litter collected is recorded and the record is sent to the MCS for analysis. The records for the year are then used in the annual Beachwatch report which influences Government policy and industry practices at a national level.

Keeping a record as the survey progressesThe eight boys involved in the scheme, Josef Hartland, Joe Bowsher, Levi Sims, Callum Lima, Mark Aspbury, Chae De Gaetano, Anthony Buckthought and Liam Jones, have chosen the Knap Beach to be the focus of their survey. Despite the cold, grey day the team have completed their first survey of the year and the results are now being collated by Levi ready for despatch to the MCS.
