The BCS Under 18 team with coach Leighton Coles Barry Comprehensive School basketball teams produced another year of outstanding achievements for a third consecutive season. FOUR of the five teams that entered the Cardiff School and Vale Championships reached the final at the Welsh Institute of Sport on Wednesday March 14 th. The Under 14 team coached by Mr.Williams had produced a string of impressive results to reach the final and were unbeaten this season. At this age group Barry Comprehensive School were set to play Bro Morgannwg in the final. It turned out to be a tight encounter with Bro Morgannwg eventually edging ahead and securing the title of county champions. The Under 16s were also due to face Llantwit in the final. This was a truly thrilling final to watch and there was nothing between the teams throughout each quarter. Both teams took turns to lead through the match and with 30 seconds remaining Llantwit led by one point. In search for victory Barry attacked and produced an outstanding 3 point basket scored by Rhys Swinfen to secure victory. Coach Mr. Hutton was very proud of his players and very glad for the final whistle! The Under 18’s have dominated the county championships over the past few seasons thanks to coach Leighton Coles knowledge and commitment and the squads performances. Again facing Llantwit in the final, it was a tight encounter but the boys managed to secure a narrow victory in the final quarter. It has been another excellent year for Barry Comprehensive School Basketball teams. Another three county championships is an outstanding feat and all individuals involved should be very proud of their achievements.Photos:
