Luke O'Sullivan, Julie Giles, Chris Ball, Ben Callow and Jamie Jones with the Bronze Award Pupils at Barry Comprehensive are even busier than usual, tackling environmental issues alongside the usual business of examinations and homework! Pupils from year 7 through to year 13 are involved in the Eco School project, tackling litter, recycling and healthy eating issues. Pupils meet regularly and take their own minuted notes which are then cascaded to the rest of the school - electronically, of course, in order to reduce paper! One seasonal project the committee has got involved in is a Christmas card recycling competition being run by the Vale of Glamorgan. Christmas cards cannot be recycled with normal paper/card waste as many have glitter or ribbons on them. If you would like to help the school, and the environment, please bring your old cards to the school for recycling between the 8th and 12th January 2007. Pupils are also really focused on the big environmental issues and do feel they are playing a part in changing attitudes. In recognition of pupils' efforts the Bronze Award was awarded in October. This has spurred pupils on to greater efforts and they are hoping to achieve the Silver Award sometime in the new-year. The overall aim is to achieve the coveted Green Flag Award; this isn't too far away for these determined Eco pupils!
