The latest successful Barry Comprehensive Eco-Committee initiative involved pupils leaving no stone unturned in their recycling of Christmas cards.

The Eco-Committee decided to support the Vale of Glamorgan initiative to reduce waste at Christmas. Old Christmas cards are a particular problem because the glitter and ribbons used to decorate them mean they cannot be recycled with general waste paper and card.

The Eco-Committee publicised the campaign within the school and the local community and would like to say a huge thank-you to the many, many pupils and parents who took the time and trouble to bring in huge amounts of cards.

Matthew White alone brought in a terrific 4611 cards. He used his regular paper round job to ask customers for their waste cards and got his family on board. Other pupils who went to supreme efforts are: Connor Rowlands, Ian Bosley and Ben Callow.

Look out for the next Eco-Committee initiative at Barry Comprehensive - a Healthy Living week running from the 29 th January to the 2 nd February. The hard working committee will use the week to promote good nutrition, the importance of regular exercise and the need to make environmentally aware choices. Teachers and canteen staff have their work cut out!
