Team JAMfund Jalopy is a fourteen-year-old VW Golf VR6 with over 152,000 miles on the clock and a worrying oil leak. This summer, along with 49 other classic cars from the late 1980s and 90s, it will travel its way from Donington Race track in Nottinghamshire to the infamous Nürburgring circuit in the forests of Northern Germany. Nicknamed The Green Hell by Jackie Stewart, it is widely considered the toughest and most demanding purpose-built race track in the world.

What’s that got to do with Barry Comprehensive, you could well ask. The answer is that the two men are driving for the Jamie Adamson Memorial Fund – a charity very close to us here at Barry Comprehensive – and they are hoping that pupils and staff at the school will sponsor them to proudly sport the JAMfund logo along with the Barry Comprehensive School logo on the Scumball.

The Scumball Rally – a parody of the famous Gumball Rally – invites ‘vehicles that boys might have lusted over as teenagers’ (the cars can not be worth more than £1000) to experience the Nürburgring , the world famous racetrack.

The drivers are father and son team Geoff and Darryl Sleath. They became interested in the charity after hearing about the success of the JamFund half-marathon, which many teachers from the school took part in. They wanted to support the charity through their passion for cars and the rest is history… or it will be if the car makes it to Nürburgring !

You can support this event by ‘buying’ some car space on the Golf! Listen out for special assemblies in May; your form can have a space on the car and you too can be in Nurburg in spirit! (We promise to bring you news of the Golf’s success at through updates on the website).

Geoff, Darryl and Paul Adamson would like to thank Arachnid Creative and Elite Signs for designing the car signage free of charge and logo sponsors JMC Motorsports, RIM Motors, British Thornton, The Lions of Bridgend, The Matthew Prewett Trust and Cardiff Volkswagon.
