Media4Schools Awards

Luke & James receiving their awards

Luke & James receiving their awards

It has been another successful year for Barry Comprehensive School at the Media4Schools Awards, held for the second year running at the BBC studios in Cardiff.

Just James , a short fictional film about a boy dealing with the death of his younger brother, scooped the Best Camera Work award, as well as the most coveted award of the ceremony – Best Overall Film. The judges were wowed by the technical excellence of this film, as well as the performance of its lead character, played by James O’Hanlon. The film was produced by Luke Jones. Both boys attended the ceremony, alongside the BCTV team, whose film School Swap, a co-production with Bryn Hafren, was shortlisted to the top three for Best Camera Work.

Luke’s prizes included a tour around the Sony factory in Bridgend, as well as a week’s work experience at the BBC. This last prize was added at the last minute by the BBC – the Chief Drama Commissioner of the BBC was at the ceremony and was impressed enough to comment that the film was of such a quality that she had commissioned work of a lesser standard for broadcast!

So all eyes are on the work of BCTV this year to see what can be achieved at next year’s awards!
