Paperclip Physics 2007

The Barry Comprehensive team of Warren Meshke, Robin Gough, Stine Bang, Dirk Ewer, Andrew Grisdale and Mr. Peacock, Head of PhysicsThe Wales Regional Final of the 2007 Paperclip Physics competition, organized by the Institute of Physics in Wales, took place at Cardiff
University recently. Out of the seven schools that took part the prize-winners were  Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni  with their presentation called "Radiation!" The runners-up were Llanishen High School, who gave a very entertaining talk on red shift galaxies. Most importantly, Barry Comprehensive School gained a very respectable third place with Howells.

Our presentation was called "Why does a CD Spin?" and involved Warren Meshke, Robin Gough, Stine Bang, Dirk Ewer and Andrew Grisdale (a very international team!) explaining the Physics behind spinning motors.

Everyone learnt a lot from watching the other competitors' presentations and there was a very good spirited nature to the event. Barry Comprehensive shone through on the day and managed to get among the prizes despite the very high standard of the competition. This was mainly due to good team work; cool heads in front the judges and some very "creative" answers from Dirk our resident South African. The prizes were presented by Sara Edwards from BBC Wales
