Barry Comprehensive School celebrated its annual Presentation Evening last week in the company of over nine hundred parents and family members who joined us to celebrate the many successes of pupils and the school.
Dr Matthew Griffiths, Chair of Governors, introduced the evening and welcomed the guests, followed by an address from David Swallow, Headteacher.
The guest speaker, Mr Jonathan Hill, rushed from the ITV Wales Tonight studio to the school to deliver a fascinating and humorous speech to the appreciative audience. Mr Hill was then joined by special guest Mr Mark Jones, Welsh Rugby Union International to present the awards and prizes to pupils.
The presentations were interspersed with a multimedia ‘Review of the Year’ celebrating the amazing achievements of pupils, both in and out of the classroom Year 11 pupil Forhad Ahmed presented a slideshow of images of his memories of his time in the school and was later joined by fellow students to present a t-shirt covered in signatures and messages from year 11 pupils to Headteacher David Swallow. This year saw a new award from the Bullies Out charity who, along with Childline, have been working with the school’s bullying mentors. The mentoring programme, which has been in place for several years, provides volunteer pupils with the training and skills to help resolve issues of teasing and bullying.
The evening was rounded off with an address by Head Boy, Ben Caotes. The celebration provided everyone who took part an opportunity to reflect on the many successes of the school over the last year.
