Wales Rally GB Art Car 2006

David Harkus receiving his VIP invitation to the rally from Kevin Davies with some of his classmates and teacher Mr Hawins and Headteacher Mr SwallowBarry Comprehensive School Year 10 pupil David Harkus has beaten competition from all over the country to win the Wales Rally GB Art Car 2006 competition.

Wales Rally GB, the final round of the FIA World Rally Championship for 2006, encouraged children to follow in the footsteps of Andy Warhol, by designing the livery for Kevin Davies’ Ford Fiesta. The car will be competing in Wales from 1-3 December on the UK leg of the World Rally Championship. Unlike other types of motorsport, rally cars compete across extremely challenging terrain, which will see the Art Car tackle Welsh forests and valleys, as well as Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium

David Harkus and Kevin Davies with the freshly applied 'puzzled' designKevin Davies brought the car to the school on Friday 17 November where it was worked on throughout the day to apply the winning design. David and his classmates were able to watch the work in progress and chat to Kevin and his team to discover what ittakes to transform a car into a world-class racing machine. Like any artist, David was asked to sign his work and the car will also sport the school logo!

As part of his prize David has been invited to the official unveiling of the car in Cardiff and was presented with a VIP pass for himself and his family to watch Kevin in action as he tests his skills and faces the elements in one of the most exhilarating events on the UK sporting calendar.
