Year 11 Revision Weekend 2007

Forty Year 11 pupils from Barry Comprehensive School recently spent the whole weekend at the Quality Inn, Cardiff in an intensive program designed to improve their Study Skills in preparation for the GCSE examinations this summer.

As well as subject specific sessions in Mathematics, English and Science, the students learnt how to apply thinking and memory skills such as mind-mapping as well as examining the benefits of different learning styles. To see the boys working until ten o’clock on Saturday night and be back hard at work at eight o’clock on Sunday morning was evidence of their commitment and determination to succeed.

All of these sessions were delivered by the students regular teachers, some of whom stayed at the Inn to supervise the boys and some who visited on Saturday or Sunday to offer their expertise in particular subject areas.

Graham Jenkins, Student Learning Mentor, applauded the boys for their exemplary behaviour, enthusiasm and the hard work they put in to their individual studies and assessment sessions. He judged the weekend to be a successful and positive experience for students and staff and predicted that the skills acquired would allow the boys to approach their examinations with confidence.
