Sportsday 2007

The annual inter-form athletics competition for years 7 to 10 was held in rather cold and damp conditions on Thursday 5 th July.

All athletes had to contend with wind and rain as well as having to compete against their fellow pupils. Mr. Manley, as starter, kept the competition ticking over from a dry 9AM to a soaking, shivering 3PM.

All year groups competed well in their events with close rivalry being shown, especially in years 7 and 8. Some notable performances throughout the day were James Sheekey (Yr 7), in the high-jump and javelin, Joel Mason (Yr 8) in the 100 m, Dominic Toozer and Tom Moffat (Yr 9) in the 100m and Curtis Matthews (Yr 10) in the high-jump.

The timetable of events was interspersed with presentations of medals and certificates to event winners, which allowed time at the end of the day for the spectacle of a sixth-form versus staff relay. This event saw the sixth-form team, including some ‘real athletes’ to edge the win by less than a metre. The staff team are already in training for revenge next year!
