Rhys O’Sullivan and Karl Steel look ahead to warmer climesBarry Comprehensive School has secured two places on the SS Stavros Nichiakos, one of the Tall Ships, which will be sailing around the Canary Islands during February half term.

As a result of the school’s improved examination results being recognised nationally in the last two years, students were offered the opportunity to join crews sailing around the English and French coasts. However, this year Rhys O’Sullivan and Karl Steel have the opportunity of sailing in warmer climes. They fly out to Gran Canaria on February 17 th to join a crew of young people who will enjoy a week’s sailing around the Canary Islands – landing at a variety of ports in the area.

Rhys and Karl, Year 12 students, cannot wait to ‘join up’ and said “it will be a tremendous experience. We will be split into different watches to be responsible for navigation, catering and climbing the masts to look after the rigging”.

Everyone at Barry Comprehensive wishes them the best of luck for their forthcoming voyage.
