Barry Comprehensive School recently sent ten lucky Year 9 students to a First Campus 4 Day Residential study course at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff.

The course, which ran from Wednesday 4 th to Saturday 7 th July, was designed to give pupils the chance to live the life of a student for four days and complete a course of study presented in the style of a mini-degree. Each day was packed with learning activities and entertainment was provided in the evenings.

Day one saw students from all the different schools attending meet for the first time for an introduction to UWIC, dividing into their working groups and being shown their study hall accommodation. The day finished with a trip to Hensol Castle. On day two the students travelled to the various UWIC campuses to continue their studies and spent the evening with quizzes and karaoke. Day three saw the completion of study and an evening graduation ball/disco followed, on Saturday morning, by a graduation ceremony at the main hall of the Llandaff campus, attended by parents and guests.

The course was a great success and provided the year 9 pupils with an insight into excellent standards of higher education provided by the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff. The Barry Comprehensive team gained top marks in many of the activities – even the karaoke!
