After the success two years ago, Barry Comprehensive and Cardiff International Airport joined forces again to cope with the influx of rugby fans arriving for last week’s Heineken Cup Final at the Millennium Stadium.
This year’s Final, between Munster and Toulouse, saw around one hundred coaches carrying Munster fans back to the airport after the game. To avoid congestion at the airport, some coaches were diverted into the school until the passengers plane was ready to be boarded. Whilst waiting to re-board their coaches, the fans made themselves comfortable in the school canteen where food and drink and a big screen TV were available. In addition to opening the canteen, extra lighting and toilets had been installed and a police contingent were in place to ensure smooth running.
Sixth form students, who are off to Sri Lanka at the end of the month as part of the school’s support of the charity Helplanka, helped serve refreshments and were very grateful to receive donations from the generous Munster fans.
The operation was hailed a success and the preparation and sale of 100kg of chips in two hours kept everyone busy!
