Children In Need

Barry Comprehensive School held its annual Children in Need fundraising day on the 16th of November. This was a rare chance for pupils to wear their own clothes, and they gladly donated ₤1 each to Children in Need to ditch the school ties and black shoes for the day. Members of the School Council and the Welsh Baccalaureate class took this further, donning fancy dress to walk the corridors collecting donations.

It was chilly outside to say the least but some teachers braved the stocks so pupils could throw wet sponges at them in return for a further donation. There were sports activities on the field all day, a sponsored silence, a sponsored videothon in the hall. Teachers and 6 th Formers raised money with a mince pie coffee morning and at lunchtime, the highly anticipated 6th Form Vs Teachers football match took place on the astroturf. James Cosgrove refereed the highly charged match with a final score of 2-1 to sixth form, a great result and the first win for the 6 th formers in 4 years! The match was full of action and a large crowd gathered to cheer on their friends.

As usual, the teachers X factor was a big hit with a truly breathtaking performance from Mr. Bourton, who was voted the winner by the audience. Other teachers gave some very “original” performances with the help of the talented musicians from the Music Department and 6 th Form.

A special note of thanks has to go to members of the School Council, the Welsh Baccalaureate class and the Music Department who worked really hard to make a success of the day. Pupils and staff had a thoroughly enjoyable day, raising over £2,000 for Children in Need.
