Year 8 pupils display their certificates at Dow Corning

Barry Comprehensive School ’s unique mentoring scheme with Dow Corning came to an end last week.

During the project, six mentors from Dow Corning teamed up with 12 pupils from year 8. Since the project began in January, mentors have worked with students one to one in the Learning Resource Centre with the aim of supporting, supplementing, and developing their mathematical knowledge.

The Year 8 pupils were also invited to Dow Corning where an employee gave a fascinating presentation about the products manufactured at the plant, and the amazing range of household products in which they appear. After lunch, the boys were taken on a tour of the plant to see for themselves exactly what happens at  one of the most modern and technically advanced chemicals facilities in the world.

The boys had a fantastic time at the plant, and the scheme was a huge success for the fourth year running.
