Jane Hutt (AM) Visit

Barry Comprehensive School was pleased to welcome Jane Hutt (AM) to school last week.

Ms Hutt began her visit by officially accepting the School Travel Plan from members of the School Council. This document, concerned with providing safe routes to school for pupils, is the culmination of many months work and will hopefully secure funding from the Welsh Assembly Government for improvements to the local infrastructure including a dedicated bus lane.

Ms Hutt then addressed pupils from the school council and students studying History and Politics at A Level. A lively question and answer session followed, with some tough questions on topics ranging from the relationship of the Welsh Assembly Government to Westminster, the level of funding for Vale schools and student fees.

To end her visit, Ms Hutt presented Sixth Form student Forhad Ahmed with the Research Machines “RM ICT Achievement Award”. The award is presented to a student who has demonstrated significant improvement through the use of ICT and includes a £50 Amazon voucher.

Staff and pupils would like to thank Ms Hutt for her time in providing an insight into Welsh politics and for her continued support for Barry Comprehensive School.
