Barry Comprehensive School was lucky enough to have concert pianist, Richard Meyrick make a return visit to their Music Department on October 3 rd. Last year’s visit was hugely successful and many new skills in performing were learned in the music workshop session. Once again, it was time for the students to show off and hopefully impress the impresario.

During the afternoon, ‘A’ Level Music students performed their set pieces and accepted the constructive criticism with dignity. Barry Comprehensive’s Scott Hillen was determined to play with passion and he did, to the extent that Richard Meyrick was unable to find too many faults with his playing. The audience heard a harpist, and a guitarist from Ysgol Bro Morganwwg, both gave an impressive performance and were eager to hear what Richard Meyrick had to say. The masterclass closed with two pianists from Cowbridge Comprehensive School, who also participated last year. It was an immensely enjoyable experience for the students who participated and they were able to extend their performance skills a step further under the close guidance of Richard Meyrick.

In the evening, the Barry Community were invited to a recital by Richard Meyrick, where they could witness a world-class concert pianist at his best. The school hall was packed with enthusiastic listeners from all over the Vale and the experience of listening to a wonderful pianist was one never to forget. We were privileged to have Richard Meyrick visit the first time, a second time was an absolute honour.
