New Term, New Year

Starting somewhere new can be daunting but new students at Barry Comprehensive School have had a great first week.

Year 7 pupils had already had a ‘taster' day at the school before the Summer holidays and so were confident of finding their way around.

Year 7 shared their first day with the new Year 12. This year has seen one of the largest intakes into the Sixth Form with over 130 students choosing to study their A Levels with us. The young men and women of the Sixth Form, looking very smart in the new Barry Sixth Form uniform, spent their first day taking part in induction activities designed to help students who have been with us for the last five years and those who have come from different schools to get to know each other.

Mr Corp and colleagues from Careers Wales were on hand to lead the new year group through an entertaining exercise to encourage problem-solving and group-work skills. The group task was to build a metre tall structure able to support the weight of a golf-ball using only spaghetti and tape! The whole year group had great fun with the task which acted as a great ice-breaker.
