Teacher Training DVD

Barry Comprehensive School was chosen by the Department of Initial Teacher Training at the University of Wales, Newport, to feature in their new training DVD.

In addition to teaching her Year 9 ICT class the complexities of databases, being observed and assessed by both her school mentor Mrs Clark and the University’s Director of PGCE Teresa Benjamin, trainee teacher Ms Miller also had to contend with being filmed. Despite all these pressures the lesson was delivered perfectly without a trace of nerves. Mrs Clarke commented “The lesson demonstrated the skills of year 9 and their response to new learning and teaching techniques very well, with all pupils representing the school with excellent performances. Thank you to Miss Miller and 9RCB for their contribution and hard work.”

Follow-up filming of the school’s mentoring process will also take place.

The project is being produced in association with the University’s Institute for Digital Learning and involves filming teacher trainees on their final teaching practices as they deliver planned lessons to classes. The resulting DVD will be used to enhance the consistency of assessment practices in teacher training courses.
