Year 7 training sessions regularly see more than thirty pupils attending, with encouraging performances from all players. Having played 5 and won 2, the pupils have taken to the game well, especially as some had no experience of playing the game prior to joining the school. The victories against local rivals, St Richard Gwyn and Stanwell as well as a close and hard fought defeat by St Cyres have identified future star players Mitchell Parker, Jordan Williams, Matthew O'Sullivan, Sam Rees-Davies and Tom Adams. Year 8 have played 2 and won 1. The first game against Stanwell saw superb play building a 29-0 lead before Stanwell came back strongly. Kyle Barros and James Sheekey were in fine form with Jordan Flynn adding some class in midfield. Barry started poorly against Cowbridge, but a stronger second half performance led to the team coming back with the final score being 21-31. Special mention goes to Matthew Edwards at scrum half and Daniel O’Donnell for his superb contact skills. Year 9 players have worked well so far in training and the three matches played, although the single win shows that the results haven't gone their way completely. Ably led by Luke O'Sullivan, Luke Giddings and Jacob Adams and with new faces Jake Curran and Joe Stevens, the coming months are sure to contain more great performances and an improvement in results. Year 10 have played 2 and won 1, with a number of games postponed. The team benefits from a nucleus of committed players including Sam Adamson, Rhodri Phillips, Mark Porter and Tom Moffatt who will help build a successful team this year. Some pleasing performances were on display in the matches played, particularly in the win against Stanwell. Year 11 under 16s have only had one game, which led to a comfortable 33-0 win over Bro Morgannwg, with second row Jack Williams and props Sam Bowditch and Sion Tucker stealing the show. The team are looking forward to the matches coming up against St Cyres, Stanwell and Cowbridge. The Under 18s have only played two league games. A strong Bishop of Llandaff side, who are tipped to win the league, had a comfortable win over the young Barry team. Against Cowbridge, both teams produced an open flowing game which Cowbridge won 40-36 with a try in the final minute. The Barry team, which features many year 11 pupils, can be proud of their efforts. Outstanding performances came from prop Sion Tucker, outside-half David Lakin and centre Jamie Jones.
