Brainiacs at BCS?

Last Tuesday afternoon saw the maiden flight of “BCS One”. The hot air balloon was constructed by members of Science club and took about three weeks to finish. Firstly, using a template, very thin tissue paper was cut to make the panels. After some careful cutting, the panels were stuck to along each edge to give the balloon its shape. The air in the balloon was heated with a small heater and a hairdryer. After a few failed attempts and a bit of patching up, the balloon flew well, almost touching the roof of the atrium! There are now plans to make a few modifications in preparation for “BCS Two”, bigger and better than the original (we hope)!

Science Club is open to boys in years 7, 8 and 9. You’ll find us in room 7, Tuesday after school, week one and Thursday lunchtimes, week two. We’ll usually be doing some sort of experiment, often slightly different to those you may do in lessons. Or maybe you have an idea that you want to investigate? Interested? Come along and find out!
