Ski Austria 2008

Forty pupils and five members of staff travelled to Saalbach in the Austrian Alps for a week of skiing and Austrian culture.

Great weather and snow conditions throughout the week enabled all skiers to progress superbly, including 22 pupils who had never skied before and some more experienced piste-masters.

Each day included 4 hours of ski lessons with their respective ski instructors and organised evening activities, including bowling, swimming and ice skating.

The beginners impressed their instructors so much by working hard at their ski technique that they quickly moved from the nursery slopes to blue and red slopes within 3 days of skiing, while our expert skiers were tackling red, black and mogul runs from day one, including visits to the Snowpark and attempting to ride the half-pipes and the "Big Air" jumps.

The week culminated with a ski slalom race for each group, followed by the presentation of medals and certificates by the ski instructors at the group's hotel, and then the final evening event of the Superhero themed karaoke!

he pupils and staff enjoyed the week so much that some of them are already saving up for the next school ski trip which is proposed for North America, including a trip to New York to see the sights during winter 2009 / 2010.
