World Book Day

To celebrate World Book Day Year 7 had the chance to hear some real men reading books. Male staff from all sorts of departments: PE, Geography, Technology and Senior staff, took part to show the boys that it’s not just English teachers who enjoy reading.

The choices ranged from Alan Shearer’s Illustrated Career (no prizes for guessing who chose that one!) to the epic adventures of The Lord Of The Rings. Other books read over the two days included: autobiographies, The Boy In Striped Pyjamas, The Seagull, and many, many more.

“I’m definitely going to get Touching The Void to read the rest of the story” said Brad 7JC, “Mr Tresilian made it sound brilliant and left the story on a real cliff-hanger!”

The staff who took part also really enjoyed sharing their own enthusiasm for reading with the boys. A number of them have asked if they can do these tutorials on a regular basis, so look out for more of the same in the future.

Positive male role models are vital in the campaign to encourage boys to read. The staff at Barry Comprehensive definitely proved that Real Men Read Books.
