Last week’s Cameron Direct at Barry Comprehensive saw the leader of the opposition take to the stage for an old-style “town hall meeting” to be quizzed by local residents rather than national journalists. Although this was the first Cameron Direct in Wales, having the opportunity to question national and local politicians is nothing new to Barry Comprehensive’s students. Over the last year, A Level Politics students have met with high profile visitors including Oliver Letwin MP, Cheryl Gillan MP, John Smith MP, Jane Hutt AM and Alun Cairns AM. The presence of the 200-strong audience and the television cameras did put off the sixth formers who managed to question Mr Cameron on quantitative easing and student grants. Other education related questions raised by the audience included super comprehensives and apprenticeships. The school was pleased to be able to host the event for Mr Cameron and we look forward to future visits from politicians from all political parties. You can view the whole Question & Answer session at Cameron Direct Photos
