Barry Comprehensive School held its annual Children in Need fundraising day on the 14th of November. This was a rare chance for pupils to wear their own clothes, and they gladly donated ₤1 each to the charity to ditch the school ties and black shoes for the day.

Members of the School Council and the Welsh Baccalaureate class took to the corridors in fancy dress collecting donations. Our resident Street Dancing expert, Levi Sims (Year 10 Council) led a dance work shop. Levi taught 26 boys (and Mrs. Clarke) a specially choreographed street dance routine then put on a show in the hall at lunchtime, raising £70.

Ryan Rowlands (Year 7 Council) raised £30 in sponsorship by dressing as a snooker player for the day and James Cosgrove (Year 11 Council) raised over £50 dressing as a surgeon. Teachers braved the stocks during break time, Mr. Rees proved a popular target and spent the rest of the morning in damp clothes. The staff took on the 6 th Form in football at lunchtime, with spectators paying to watch, and a cake stall in the atrium proved very popular.,

Ms. Ford paid homage to her famous pink wellies in a sponsored “Baked Bean” walk, with year 7 pupils paying 20p a spoonful to fill her boots with beans. Ms Ford then ran a lap of the field with bean juice oozing from the boots. Needless to say, she raised a lot of money and even more smiles!

Teachers wowed a very tough crowd in Barry Comprehensive’s answer to X Factor. Mr. Periera kept the audience entertained as out host and the English Department had a clear victory this year, with their version of the Sugar Babes “Girls”. Mr. Kennedy and Mr. Piekielniak provided yet another unforgettable performance!

Through the combined efforts of the school council, year councils and Welsh Baccalaureate students we raised £2,000 and had lots of fun along the way. A big thank you to all the pupils and staff involved for making the day a success.
