A group of pupils from Barry Comprehensive School opened ‘The Global Music Maker’ Concert in the Millennium Centre just before Christmas. Callum George (Year10), Liam Welsh (Year 8) and Thomas Rees and Dale Booker (Year 9), were invited to open the concert as special guests. The concert involved groups of pupils from schools across Cardiff and the Vale performing a selection of music and dance from around the globe. The boys opened the concert with a spectacular group performance on the ‘Dohl’ Drums. These are Indian drums which the pupils have been learning in school with the help of our Indian Drum teacher Mr Youngtemple.
The pupils performed in pairs and also as a large group in front of an audience of over 200 people on the Tesco stage during a busy lunch hour in the Millennium Centre. The performance was appreciated and the response from the audience was fantastic. Other performances included Samba Drumming, Latin and Indian songs and dance from many different countries. All the pupils had an amazing time and gained confidence and self belief from performing live for the first time on the ‘Dohl’ Drums. We hope to return to the Tesco stage in the summer term with more of our Indian Drummers including a group of pupils playing ‘Tabla’ drums as well. Let the beat go on!!
