Help Lanka 2009

Barry Comprehensive School sixth form students were raring to go last week as they set off on an adventure of a lifetime.

Accompanied by Geography Department staff Mr. Prickett and Miss Allen, they have travelled to Sri Lanka to work for two weeks in our twin school, Maliyadewa Vidyalaya.

After a considerable amount of fund raising, and as a result of the generosity of the local community, the party were able to take a phenomenal amount of desperately needed equipment and resources for the school near Galle, in the south of the country. Help and support will also be offered to a local orphanage whilst the party are in the area.

Amongst the many events held in school to raise money was a Sri Lankan Food Week in the school canteen and a chocolate raffle that found several boys buying more and more tickets.

While in Sri Lanka, the party will be teaching classes and accompanying pupils on visits around the island. It is hoped that it will be a life-changing experience for everyone involved and we look forward to hearing from them on their return.
