Last month, the Is It Theatre Company visited Barry Comprehensive to present performances and workshops to year 8 and year 9. Anti-Bullying awareness - Barry Comprehensive was keen to continue the awareness raised in National anti-bullying week, so invited Is It theatre company in to perform their production, ‘Why Don’t you Weep?’. The production is very hard hitting, following the gradual bullying of a young girl; it isn’t a happy ending, and the play explores some very serious issues.
Year 8 took the play very seriously, and were keen to take back in the talk-back session that followed. It was reassuring to know that the vast majority of the year group felt they could talk to someone about bullying and that something would be done. Sexual Health - Year 9 watched ‘The Other’; this performance focused on sexual health and issues such as unwanted pregnancy. Again, it was hard-hitting, demanding a lot from pupils in terms of maturity. Pupils were given the opportunity to take part in talk-back sessions and asked some interesting questions.
