Newport
Medieval Ship

Barry Comprehensive School sent 40 budding scientists to examine the Newport Medieval Ship under the expert guidance of Cardiff University’s School of Earth & Ocean Sciences.

The students learned how the ship was discovered, excavated and pieced back together. They also toured the warehouses where the ship is stored and took part in expert sessions on geology, archaeology and preservation techniques.

The visit was one of many events arranged by the University to allow local schools to mark the British Science Association’s National Science and Engineering Week.
