“Pause for thought”
A tribute to
Harold Pinter

Year 13 Theatre Studies students at Barry Comprehensive School have been studying Harold Pinter plays recently.

They have analysed how unique his style of writing is and as part of their ‘A’ level course, they have chosen to perform extracts from two of his major plays – “The Caretaker” and “The Birthday Party”.

For one night only, the students have continued the tradition of performing serious drama as part of their development in their acting skills and an audience were invited to come along and share an evening of “Pinter – Pause for thought”.

Three students, in particular, were awarded ‘A’ grades, the top marks for their practical examination – Kyle Haysham, Gerran Howell and Jamie Jones. Their production of “The Caretaker” was outstanding. The dark, sinister, often disturbing moments in this play, kept the audience on the edge of their seats. They certainly proved they deserved their A’s.

After the interval, Year 12 students showcased their devised plays, based on themes from plays by Pinter and Lorca. Their work was equally enthralling.

The whole evening was certainly a tribute to Pinter and also a huge tribute to the talented young actors who performed on this evening.

“Pause for thought” made everyone think about the abundance of acting ability at Barry Sixth Form.
