Another year and another very successful World Book Day. To celebrate the event Year 7 had the chance to hear some real men talking about and reading from some of their favourite books. Male staff from all departments took part to show the boys that it’s not just English teachers who enjoy reading. This year the scheme was so popular amongst the teachers that it lasted over two days.
There was a huge range of books being read and discussed in tutorials ranging from classics like “The Lord Of The Flies” and “The Adventures Of Sherlock Holmes” to Steven Gerrard’s autobiography.
Boys from 7CM have persuaded their teacher to order Lance Armstrong’s “It’s Not About The Bike” for their class book box after Mr Manley got them hooked on the story.
The staff who took part also really enjoyed sharing their own enthusiasm for reading with the boys. A number of them have asked if they can do these tutorials on a regular basis, so look out for more of the same in the future.
Positive male role models are vital in the campaign to encourage boys to read. The staff at Barry Comprehensive definitely proved that Real Men Read Books.
