Red Nose
Day 2009

The pupils and staff at Barry Comprehensive School fully embraced the spirit of Comic Relief and did ‘something funny for money’ last Friday, raising over £1200 for Red Nose Day.

Pupils paid £1 to wear their own clothes and Red Noses! There were a number of sponsored events taking place including sponsored silences, people wearing their clothes backwards and members of Year 9 and the 118 118 men taking part in a sponsored run. There were lots of strange visitors to school including Dumbledore, Darth Vader, Darth Maul and Jedi Knights along with three Scooby Doo’s, the Blues Brothers and even a farmer, as people were sponsored to wear funny costumes!!! We are hoping that we will have raised more than £1500 once all of the sponsorship money is in.

Zak Brown, Connor Ogden and Cieron Tyrell would have made Sir Alan proud by raising over £60 selling over Red Nose Cakes in the atrium at break time which were kindly donated by Lewis Pies. There were plenty of fundraising events taking place throughout the day including ‘teachers in the stocks’ (which was very successful!), ‘the crossbar challenge’, climbing, face painting, a dance off organised by Levi Sims (yr10) and many more. Rhys James (Yr9) managed an amazing 379 Keepy ups with a Red Nose Football!

Lunchtime saw the battle of the titans… the Year 12 v Year 13 Rugby match which was won by Year 13 (7-0). The School Council did an excellent job of selling Red Nose fruit bags containing strawberries, plums and red grapes.

It wasn’t all fun though as many of the days lessons focussed on how the money raised by Comic Relief helps people in both Africa and the UK and pupils took part in a Comic Relief themed quiz.

The day ended with six brave teachers taking to the black chair for a special edition of Teachers Mastermind hosted by Mr Piekielniak, where their knowledge and their nerves were tested in front of the pupils. Mr Prickett and Mr Davies were crowned as the most intelligent teachers after answering questions on their specialist subjects, Welsh Rugby -1980’s to present and Family Guy characters. Other specialist subjects included Friends, Heroes and the original Star Wars Trilogy.

A big thank you to all the pupils and staff involved in making Red Nose Day such a success.
