It’s that time of year for the Creative Arts Faculty – busy, busy, busy!!

Pupils and staff are rehearsing their summer production of ‘Les Misérables’. A taster of what’s to come was performed for the audience at this years’ Presentation Evening and we can look forward to three nights of sheer entertainment in early July. Coming up before then is “Reality Bites”, an exciting new physical dance theatre production, inspired by themes of reality versus virtual reality.

As part of Theatr Iolo’s Emergent Artist Programme, Kylie Ann Smith, Dancer /Choreographer, has been working with pupils from Barry Comprehensive School and 5 professional dancers, creating an exciting Dance, Theatre production to be performed in the outdoor venue of Kings Square, Barry.

Kylie has been working with the pupils at Barry Comprehensive, once a week, during the last 8 weeks. Her workshops have been a huge success and her choreography innovative and original. Working alongside professionals has been an ongoing venture for the Creative Arts Faculty and is an inbuilt part of the Drama curriculum, encouraging pupils to reach their potential in performance skills.

This project is a new venture, where pupils have explored a variety of dance forms. The performance combines dance, theatre and movement and uses themes of youth culture, computer games, alter-egos and technology.

There are 3 performances on Kings Square on Saturday 4 th July at 12.00, 2.30 and 4.00 pm. Please come along and experience a very different form of entertainment, one you won’t forget.

The summer performance of ‘Les Misérables’ takes place at 7pm on Tuesday 7, Wednesday 8 and Thursday 9 of July at Barry Comprehensive School, and tickets are available from the school on 01446 41141.
