The spellers concentrate as the competition progresses

Barry Comprehensive School has begun an exciting new venture by organising a Spelling Bee amongst local schools.

Teams of three pupils in years 7, 8 and 9 from Stanwell Comprehensive School, St Cyres Comprehensive School, Ysgol Bro Morgannwg and our very own Barry Comprehensive are competing in a series of four heats held at each of the four schools. The pupils are asked to spell ten words during each heat The final, to be held on 8 th July will determine the overall winning spelling school and an individual winning pupil from each of the three year groups.

The first of these events took place on Wednesday 10th June at Barry Comprehensive,

The competitors displayed excellent spelling skills with high scores being awarded to all.

In the lead so far for Year 7 is Barry Comprehensive with 30/30, for Year 8 Stanwell Comprehensive lead with 30/30 and for Year 9 joint leaders are Stanwell Comprehensive and St Cyres Comprehensive.

The scores will be accumulated as the heats progress and schools will enter the final on 8 th July with an individual score out of 40 and a team score out of 120.
