At the beginning of October Linda James and John Hawkins from the charity Bulliesout met with fifteen volunteers from years 8 to 12. The students took part in an excellent Peer2Peer Mentor Training Course.

The boys had volunteered to become part of the Anti-Bullying Squad, a group of specially trained pupils who offer support to pupils who prefer to talk to one of their peers rather than an adult. The day was an intensive look at the issues surrounding bullying and how ABS counsellors could offer effective help to those in need.

Pupils gave presentations and discussed techniques for interviewing, counselling and supporting their peers. The training allows the boys to become part of the ongoing fight against bullying, a problem that needs support from everyone.

During National Anti-Bullying week, 16-20 November, the ABS counsellors will be highlighting bullying issues and there will be competitions to design an ABS badge and a Widget for the Cyberbullying Website.
