Question Time

Barry Comprehensive School joined in the election debate by holding a public Question Time with five of the Vale’s prospective parliamentary candidates on April 20th.

The candidates who took part were Alun Cairns (Conservative), Alana Davies (Labour), Ian Johnson (Plaid Cymru), Kevin Mahoney (UKIP) and Eluned Parrott (Liberal Democrats), and the Chairman was Malcolm Phillips (Head of History)

The audience enjoyed coffee and cakes before the event began and after a lively ninety minutes of questions, answers and debate the audience and candidates had time to meet and chat.

In addition to questions from local residents, the candidates had to field tricky questions from pupils Oliver Batt (17), Caelum Davies (15), Christopher Bravey (18) and Thomas Moffat (17).

David Swallow, Headteacher, commented, “Everyone at Barry Comprehensive is delighted with how well Question Time was received. The event was very well attended and gave the public the chance to hear the candidates’ answers to a wide range of questions. It was also an excellent opportunity for pupils in the audience to engage with politics and debate with the candidates. We are grateful to everyone who made the event possible and also for the kind comments received from both the audience and the candidates at the end of the evening “
